George Smith

George F. Smith, 83, of Scottsville, Va., passed away on Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born in Charlottesville, Va. on January 24, 1932, to the late Joseph Oliver and Margaret Safley Smith. Also preceding him in death are a sister, Theresa Smith Buck Robinson; three brothers, Joseph O. Smith, Jr., Milton S. Smith, Douglas (Jimmy) M. Smith; two sisters-in-law, Delores P. Smith, Julia C. Smith and two brothers-in-law, Charles W. Buck and Richard M. Robinson.George served his country in the United States Navy, retiring as Quartermaster Chief after 22 years of service. George worked for Piedmont Tractor Co 22 years before retiring. He was a quiet man with a loving spirit. George was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Erlyne; two daughters, Gloria Dudley and husband Butch and Chris Holmes and husband Clayton; a step-daughter, Melanie Lohr and husband Phil and two step-sons, Eric "Kip" Cosner and wife Mary, Wayne Holland and wife Patty and a brother, Robert M. Smith and Wife Polly. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Anna Dudley, Charles Holmes and wife Rhonda, Rachel Heatwole and husband Mark, Eric Holmes and fiancée, Julia, Justin Dabney and wife Heather, Matthew Dabney, Melissa Lohr and husband Andy Lettner, Benjamin Cosner; eight great grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob, Brooke, Jackson, Everette, Austin, Sierra, Kylie; two sisters-in-law, Revonda Smith, Barbara Cosner and husband Grant and many nieces and nephews.
