Alonzo R. Bragg

Al Bragg, 99, of Richmond, Va., formerly of Sarasota, Fla., passed away January 9, 2016. Alonzo was a resident of Brookdale, Virginia at the time of his passing. He graduated in 1935 from Charlottesville High School. Al was a US Postal Service employee prior to enlisting in the US Navy during WWII. He was awarded the American Area, the Asiatic-Pacific and the Victory-WWII Medals and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations in Guam during WWII.  

He was a US Postal Service employee for 36 years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks and a Past Commander of American Legion Post 74 in Charlottesville, VA, and a member of St. John's Methodist Church while residing in Sarasota. Al was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a good friend to all he knew. He leaves behind Carol, his best friend and beloved wife of 76 years, his son & daughter-in-law Richard Bragg & Val Murphey, of Richmond, his daughter & son-in-law Yvonne & Paul Lanphear formerly of Sarasota, plus 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Employee Appreciation Fund at Brookdale Imperial Plaza, 1711 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227.
