The Eleventh Hour

Roger T. Breeden

  • Breeden, Roger Thomas

Roger Thomas Breeden, 75, of Charlottesville, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 14, 2016, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born December 9, 1940, in Charlottesville, to the late G.A. "Jack" and Mary A. Breeden.  Roger was a Charter Member of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, and served in the U.S. Army during the 1960s. He was stationed in Germany before returning to Charlottesville at the end of his service in 1966. He worked for many years at Roy Haney Motor Company / Cavalier Cars on Main Street. In 1978 he started his own car business, The Car Store of Charlottesville, then RHT Auto Sales and Rentals on High Street, where he worked until retirement. During his more than 30 years in the car business he met and worked with many wonderful people. As a member of First Baptist Church, Park Street, he was a Deacon Emeritus and a lifetime Gideon. He loved his church family and enjoyed serving the Lord helping to lead others to Christ with a faithful servants heart. Roger is survived by his wife, Helen Harris Breeden, who was the love of his life. She was faithfully by his side throughout his journey. They were rarely seen apart from each other during their 54 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter, Tiffany Lynn Breeden Dettor, who enjoyed working for her father for many years and was very much a daddy's girl. Austin Thomas Dettor and Tyler William Dettor, his beloved grandsons, who also survive him, were two of the best things in his life, keeping him smiling until the end. The family would like to thank everyone at Charlottesville Health and Rehab for their excellent care. We cannot express how much we appreciate Dr. David Chesler, as well as all of the nurses, CNA's, and the physical, occupational, and speech therapists who worked with him every day. We could not have asked for more loving and compassionate care. We would also like to thank Dr. Mark Shaffrey, Dr. Schiff and all of the staff at the Emily Couric Cancer Center for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
